Lessons learned in Egypt

I just returned from an epic pilgrimage in Egypt – it fulfilled and exceeded a bucket list dream I’ve had since I was 7! So excited to share the wisdom gained from this powerful experience over the next weeks and months with you.

One insight I’d love to start off with occurred on the last day of the journey. It had been arranged for our group of 65 to have private access to The King’s Chamber in the Great Pyramid. So in the wee hours just before dawn, flashlights guiding our way, we climbed the narrow passageway to the sacred space. After 20 minutes we arrived – the room was large with high ceilings and felt more spacious than I imagined it would be.

We cozied up sitting against the walls and laying on the floor in anticipation of what was next. Our pilgrimage leader, Mary Morrissey, instructed us to turn off all flashlights and then in the pitch darkness of the apex of the pyramid (so surreal!) led us into a silent 30-minute meditation to connect with God.

5 Tips for Creating a Self-Love Day

I want you to pretend that we’re hanging out together at our favorite coffee shop. We’ve got our latte’s in front of us and I’m sitting across the table from you when and I look up and say, “Girl, you are overdue for some pampering ‘me’ time!”

I stand up, take your hand and proclaim that today is all about you. We’re going to create a space for you to refuel, recharge and treat yourself like the amazing woman you are!

We go to our favorite bath and body store. You buy some bath oils, a luxurious new robe and maybe those little things they put between your toes when you get a pedicure. Yes! We’re going all out for your much-needed self-love at home SPA DAY!

How is this sounding so far? Pretty good, right?

But now, let’s imagine that I’m not there with you, encouraging you to take care of yourself. How likely do you think you are to actually do it? I’m thinking the answer to that question is, “Not very likely.” Let’s change that!

Self-Love fuels the soul.

It really is that simple. When we make ourselves a priority, we can more easily make others feel important as well.

If you have difficulty putting yourself first, here are some Self-Love Day suggestions that will fill you up and make you sparkle.

  1. Write yourself a love letter! Describe everything that you love and find amazing about yourself. Tell yourself how proud you are of all that you’ve accomplished. Make it fun by using your favorite pen and some pretty paper. If any negative speak comes into your head, physically flick it away from your body and keep writing!
  2. Make a homemade sugar body scrub. Mix together honey and raw sugar and rub this on your body while in the shower. As you brush away all the dead skin, imagine that you’re also brushing away all the negativity that has been clinging to you, making it difficult to feel lovable and open. Doing this will make you feel fresh, polished and pretty.
  3. Have an “I Love You” bath or shower. Get a white soap like Dove and work it into a lather all over your body. You should be able to ‘write’ on your body and see it. Write “I love you” on your arm, and say out loud “I love you, arm, you help me hold the hand of my partner,” or “you helped me cradle my children.” Praise that body part for all it allows you to do. Do the same to your breasts, belly, your legs, even your bottom! When you’re done praising every body part, lovingly wash off the soap. You will feel so much love for your body.
  4. Give your hair a loving treatment! Wet your hair and rub several tablespoons of Coconut oil into your hair and scalp. Then wrap it in an old towel and let it sit for a few hours. While you’re waiting, get back into that juicy book you never finished or watch a movie. Wash your hair as you normally would. It will feel silky and nourished!
  5. Give yourself a mani or pedi or both! You can buy DIY kits at most drugstores. Paint your nails a bright SELF LOVE pink and every time you look at your handiwork, you will feel that love!

Try to make time for one of these Self-Love Days at least once a month. It doesn’t take much effort to create one and there are no rules. Do anything that resonates with you and makes you feel good.

The words we speak to ourselves are very powerful!

Dr. Masaru Emoto’s studies show that the way we speak to ourselves carries its own energetic weight. In one of his experiments, there were two glasses of water drawn from an identical water source. On each glass were written words. One glass had positive messages and the other, negative. The water was left to sit for a while and later viewed under a microscope.

What they discovered is astounding!!

The molecules of water in the glass with positive words looked like snowflakes. They reflected like beautiful prisms. The water molecules in the glass with negative words were shockingly black and yellow. They looked horrible.

So on your Self-Love Day make sure that you’re using only words of love.

Valentines greetings from Egypt – while I’m on a spiritual pilgrimage to deepen my own personal journey of expansion, growth and self love you were on my mind.

Tomorrow, as you know, is the most exalted love day of the month.

Spice Up Your Love Life This Valentine’s Day!

Let’s face it: most long-term couples find themselves in a romantic rut at one point or another. Between your kids’ busy schedules, your demanding jobs, and that never-ending and totally unsexy daily task list, it’s hard enough just to sit down and have a conversation, let alone make time for romance.

Here’s the deal: that guy you fell in love with, the one who gave you butterflies simply by looking in your direction, he’s still in there! And he wants to come out and play just as much as you do!

Like my client, mix things up with a little moxy and create a romantic evening that brings you and your partner back to those heady days of dating. Make his favorite dinner and eat it by candlelight. Create a playlist of songs from that time in your life and you’ll be sure to remember why you fell in love in the first place.

Here are some idea’s to get you started….

Fill your bathroom with candles and draw a luxurious bath for the two of you. Or bring the balmy, romantic nights of Hawaii to your home with a sexy hula show.

Feeling extra adventurous? Book yourself a room at a nearby hotel. Have your husband meet you at the bar and send him a drink with a note attached that reads, “I saw you on the subway this morning and I have to have you…meet me in room #…in ten minutes.”

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, empower yourself by doing something different.   • When all else fails breathe and open up to your feminine nature. Getting started is the hardest part. Once you’ve jumped in, you’ll be thrilled to see how much fun you can have creating the experience.

This Valentine’s Day, put your favorite Romance-Capade into action. Don’t wait for your man to make dinner reservations. Take the lead and you will feel enlivened, vibrant and empowered!

Relationship Harmony – How to Deal with Bad Moods

Ever walked into a hornet’s nest or wall of woe in your relationship? I think most of us have – you’re in a decent if not great mood and when you walk thru the door you’re greeted with “the mood-breaker” – geez! Your first reaction is to spew back and match the vibe but what does that get you? A lost evening of pleasure and much anxiety.

Sometimes easier said than done to be the brighter light in your relationship but if you can transcend those tempting urges to fight back you will be loving life. I belong to a group on FaceBook called The Face of Love, run by Nick Rolls and this is an affirmation he recently sent out addressing this “mood” challenge…very wise words, I must say…

“I love and accept people for who they are… I remain switched on to love and light even if another is in a dark place. I know that I am strong enough in love not to allow others’ moods to bring me down. If I see the light in others I know I can be kind and compassionate enough to help them switch their own light switch on. And sensible enough to keep my own switched on.”

Change Your Mood with Yellow

Do you ever wake up feeling blah….or in a mood you just can’t shake? I certainly have had my share of these morning funks and who knows what causes them – bad dreams, negative thoughts on your mind as you drift off, watching the news before you sleep, a fight with your man – so many possibilities!!

I have been using a ritual that is incredibly easy, clears this energy, creates a joyful space and totally WORKS!!! Whooohooo – and I am soooo going to share it with you because life is precious life and you deserve to enjoy every minute!

To get started immediately here’s what you do:

1) Light a white candle for 2 hrs and ask that all disappointment be burned up and purified

2) Light a yellow candle for joy or a pink candle for love or (or both) for another couple of hours. Why not? Everyone can use a heavy dosing of these two powerful vibrations:-)

Embracing a New Chapter of Life

Whooohooo birthday bash! Here I am celebrating with my life long gal pals in Ojai-they spoiled and pampered me with spa treatments, fabulous food ( check out the peanut butter/chocolate birthday torte – sumptuous!!) and loving friendship (the best gift of all!).

I thought I would be depressed about turning the big “5-0” but nothing could be further from the truth….I woke up feeling zippy, happy and blessed to be alive – to have lived to see 50…what fabulous experiences I’ve had thus far. I can’t wait to see what this new chapter and decade will bring…such a privilege to be on this planet!!

Feeling this way helped me get it – see the truth…life…a good life…is purely about perspective and attitude – looking at life as a gift puts the spring in your step and the sparkle in your eye, ALL day, EVERY day!

My  five favorite birthday gifts:

1) Gratitude- give thanks for everything in life, all experiences (good and bad – how else do you grow??)

2) Love – Family, friends  and Self… nothing trumps this connection.

3) Health – a positive mind and outlook keep the body feeling fantastic!

4) Adventure – makes you feel ALIVE!

5) Grace – the beauty and blessings of life!

50 does feel like the new 30 – nothing like a birthday to make you live life to the fullest with total appreciation – Yes!!!
